Quail is proud to work with Foster the City. Every day, children in our county are removed from their families due to accusations of abuse or neglect. In an instant, these children are taken away from everything familiar and placed into foster care. The sad reality is many of these children have no family willing to take them in.
Yet God loves every one of these precious children made in His image. We believe that our church is called to love and care for children experiencing the painful realities of foster care and we would love for you to get involved.
Our Foster the City ministry is devoted to finding homes for children experiencing foster care and there is a role for everyone! Foster the City helps current and prospective foster families navigate the complexities of foster care. We also train and empower support friends who provide meals, childcare, and support to the amazing foster families at our church.
Important roles:
- Foster Parent - Open your heart and home to a child in need
- Support Friend - Provide the practical, emotional, and spiritual support that Foster Families need to thrive
- Team Lead - Communicate with the Foster Family and coordinate their care needs with Support Friends
- Advocate - Your leadership could strengthen the Foster Care ministry here
- Financial Partner - Your generosity can help more vulnerable children experience a safe and loving home
The long-term effects of children growing up without a loving and stable family are tragic:
- Youth in foster care are twice as likely to develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder than a war veteran that has experienced active combat.
- According to a 2013 study, more than half of child sex trafficking victims recovered domestically are youth from foster care.
- 1 out of 3 youth will become homeless after aging out of the foster care system.
- 1 out of 2 youth who age out of the foster care system will develop a substance dependence.
