Lay Counseling Training

Want to join our Lay counseling team? Find out how!

Has anyone ever told you what a great listener you are? Do you have gifts of encouragement and empathy? Do you like working with people one-on-one or with couples? Our Counseling Ministry may be a place for you to use your gifts and passion! Training is required for those applying to join the Lay Counseling Team.

Lay Counseling Training is offered each year for Quail attendees and those from other churches as well.

  • Has anyone ever told you what a great listener you are?
  • Have you ever been told you are such an encourager?
  • Do you get a sense of fulfillment out of walking alongside someone when they are going through tough times?
  • Would you like to improve your listening skills?

If you answered yes to the above questions, we hope you will consider joining us for the next training.

Each lay counselor completes intensive training over two weekends in listening, clarifying and assisting in goal setting, and offering a biblical approach to counseling and caring. Dr. Cyndi Telander, a licensed clinical psychologist, is our instructor/trainer. Cyndi has worked in a number of clinical settings, including inpatient treatment programs, community and church counseling centers, and high schools. She taught adjunct undergraduate psychology classes at Biola University.

Lay Counseling Training typically takes place one weekend in February and a second weekend one month later in March. The training is on Thursday & Friday evening and all-day Saturday. You must attend all sessions. Following the training, participants can opt to apply to be part of the Lay Counseling Team.

Our next Lay Counseling Training will be on February 20- 22 and March 20- 22, 2025.
